Q: Where can I find a list of approved signals?
A: Click on NFHS Signal Chart at the left of your screen and you will see the list. Print it and keep it as a reference.
Q: How early do I need to arrive at a game?
A: Be at your assignment at least 15 minutes early, be dressed and look the part.
Q. Why is all contact not a foul?
A. Basketball is a contact sport. When determining whether or not to call a foul, watch the entire play; see it through. If the contact does not allow any advantage, does not disrupt the play and/or is not violent, withhold your whistle.
Q. What can I do to improve my skills as an Official?
A.Go to basketball camps. Ask the expert to find out about quality camps.
Q. How do I know if I made the correct ruling?
A. Refer to the rule book. Carry it with you to all assignments. Ask the expert.
Q. How many games should I work in a week?
A. When you first start out 3 games a week is enough. Remember your family and job come first.
Q. When do I give a technical foul?
A. When the player or coach disrespect's you or the game.
Q. Should I have a pre-game with my partner?
A. When you show up 20 to 30 min before your game, you can sit with your partner and talk about how you will call the game.
Q. How do I call a game when the players skill level is low?
A. When you have a game with low skill levels, it's better to let them play.
